30 years and beyond…
Presenting the first festival edition in 1992 in a city still divided by a border, probably not many of us would have betted that we would reach the thirty-year threshold with a project of a decisively visionary time and a precursor of ideas and actions that we find today, shared and consolidated by all. We think about the strong international and European vocation, the cross-border value, environmental sustainability, social and cultural inclusivity: all actions and intentions that converge towards the objective of creating a new audience of “Europeans”.
A festival which, since the very beginning has not only been an international showcase of puppetry, but also an open and dynamic workshop in which to experiment multiculturality and multilingualism on the field, striving not to lose sight of Europe in the future. And Gorizia and Nova Gorizia were the ideal headquarters for this project because of their history and geopolitical location, together with two regional excellences Grado and Aquileia.
This year’s edition has the aim of underlining a narrative which began three years ago. And it does this by consolidating and developing an artistic process which was born years ago with projects such as Becket & Puppet and Puppet&Music and today with Puppets&Design, the European project which sees three important European cultural realities such as Lutkovno Gledališče Ljubljana, Damùza Studio in Praga and the IED-European Institute of Design of Madrid.
An edition which would like to reflect upon its history and on the cultural ‘necessity’. And together begin to question the future and imagine unexplored landscapes after this pandemic which has incredibly accelerated a change of which we could already perceive the signs in the way of thinking and organising the cultural offer, and in particular live shows.
