Great stars of European puppetry
The main attraction of this year’s Nekropolis – Puppets & Design Festival are the experienced matadors of the European puppetry scene, Ariel Doron and Gianluca Di Matteo. Italian puppeteer Gianluca Di Matteo will present a gentle reflection on loneliness and love called Il caffé delle ombre, about a puppeteer who loses fulfilment in his work. The Israeli star of the independent puppetry scene Ariel Doron will present her successful and impressive puppet show Plastic Heroes, in which children’s toys play the main role. “Ariel Doron has excelled at major festivals all over Europe and I am glad that despite the current situation we have managed to make his performance in Prague happen,” adds Zuzana Cajtlerová, director of the organizing Studio Damúza.
The theatrical part of the festival programme this year will take place within the framework of an international European cooperation project Puppets & Design.
New puppet projects news and young blood of Czech puppetry
In addition to experienced puppeteers and their theatrical hits, the festival will also offer tastings of the latest young creations. Students of the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre (DAMU) will show the result of a workshop led by puppeteer, actor and director Matija Solce in the form of the production DeMask. In addition, he and his company Teatro Matita will also perform the intermedia cabaret The Hatchet. Nekropolis will also give festival-goers a glimpse into the process of the creation of Fekete Seretlek’s EXIT production, which the audience will have the opportunity to see for the very first time. There will also be the sound art project Prefaby by Mir.theatre and Plata Company, which won the 2019/2020 Theatre Newspaper Award (Cena Divadelních novin).
An evening show of musicians from around the world
Each festival day will end with an evening concert by musicians and theatre artists from Austria and Slovenia. Festival visitors will hear the Slovenian Duo Zajtrk, jam sessions by Oscar Anatoli, Petra Onderuf and Claudia Schwab, the Wild String Trio or the unique musical project Etno Histeria United – an international group of musicians who use folk music as the basis for their work, from which a common melody is born. “The Etno Histeria World Orchestra is a project that for almost twenty years has been creating a global community of over a thousand musicians who meet in a different line-up and location each time, creating a new and unique repertoire,” adds festival music programmer Matija Solce.
