THINGS WHICH THINK THINGS
– Gogolisms, object theatre concert
Every thing has its place, its memory, its character. Every thing has its own life, that can have similarities to human ones. Through this performance, we will research and define different aspects of unexpected, old objects by animating them, changing them into musical instruments or by using them as symbols and characters. This way, we will create a wordless language, that will tell stories through objects, movement and sound.
Let’s enter our atticks! As some things just in few decades became useless, as we are supplied by huge amounts of trash, the modern people are losing relation to material. This is the essence of our work – correlating with objects, reviewing their symbolic power, and trying to reanimating them as puppets, characters, musical instruments or sensorial tools. Combination of Gogol’s destiny and Andersens animism will be made into theatrical composition, which will be based on musicality.
The stories, which we will collect from the “owners” of chosen things, will show perspective of things and will make connection to postmodern society and social problems.
For beginning we will enter few spaces in rural and urban areas, such as old houses, local farms, industrial halls, as well as peoples houses. In this way, we will get to know the owners or partners of chosen things and try to involve them into our stories. In second stage, we will choose the topic of each thing, and think of a story and find medium of expression. At third stage, we will make a composition out from the collection of material, as well as unique instrument board, that will resemble minimalist music of John Cage. The production will be on one hand a confession and on the other, an thrilling trip through specific, personal and forgotten spaces.
